Quarles in charge
Born of a merger of two large Milwaukee firms in 1974, Quarles & Brady now has 350 lawyers working from Phoenix to West Palm Beach. The firm's heart, however, lies in the Midwest - around 200 lawyers operate out of the Milwaukee office. Quarles organizes its attorneys into more than 20 practice groups, which it calls "many small firms within a larger one."
Up and coming in Chicago
Of course, 'tis but a 90 minute jaunt by train from Milwaukee to Chicago, and Quarles hasn't neglected growth in the Windy City. In February 1999, the firm's two year search for a suitable merger partner culminated in a merger with Chicago's Wilson & McIlvain. While the deal substantially boosted Quarles' presence in the financial sector, other practice groups in Chicago were also soon to grow. In July 1999, Quarles brought on four attorneys from the giant McDermott, Will & Emery.
