iWon Gains Exclusive Access to Entertainment and Celebrity News of the National Enquirer and Star Magazine as Part of Integrated Marketing Partnership
(Irvington, NY & Boca Raton, Fla. – July 16, 2001) – Destination portal iWon and American Media, Inc. (AMI), the nation’s top publisher of celebrity magazines, announced today a fully-integrated marketing partnership. AMI will provide iWon with content and exclusive breaking news and will sponsor the iWon Daily Survey, the results of which will be published in AMI magazines. iWon will promote special offers for AMI magazines and will award bonus entries into the iWon sweepstakes for National Enquirer readers. Now, inquiring minds will turn to destination portal iWon (www.iwon.com) for an extra dose of love triangles, near-death experiences and Tom and Nicole.
“This partnership positions iWon as a leading provider of entertainment news and celebrity reporting,” said Bill Daugherty, iWon Founder and co-CEO. “American Media content allows iWon to increase the compelling and timely entertainment news to which our users are accustomed.”
Through the agreement, iWon will own the right to use original entertainment and celebrity content provided by AMI magazines. In the event of breaking news, iWon will gain exclusive rights to publish story teasers and provide links to the corresponding magazine’s website; other news from AMI-published titles will appear in full on the iWon Celebrity Gossip Channel.
The National Enquirer will also dedicate editorial space in its expanded issues to profile iWon sweepstakes winners, and the AMI family of celebrity magazines will publish results of the iWon Daily Survey once every two weeks. Recent surveys have covered such topics as President George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna, former baseball star Darryl Strawberry and plastic surgery.
“This strategic alliance will allow us to increase awareness of our products and subsequently grow our circulations,” said David J. Pecker, Chairman, President, and CEO, American Media and National Enquirer, Inc. “With iWon’s rapid expansion, we believe this is a great opportunity to expose a large and loyal audience to our products.”
In addition to National Enquirer and Star Magazine, AMI publishes many well-known magazine titles, including Auto World Weekly, Country Music, Country Weekly, Globe, National Examiner, Star Magazine, Sun and Weekly World News. AMI also operates Distribution Services, which places the periodicals in supermarkets throughout the United States and Canada.
