"I DO" ON iWON - She Accepts! First Online Marriage Proposal on Top Ranked Portal Takes Place on iWon
Irvington, NY, September 25, 2000 - iWon.com (www.iwon.com), one of the fastest growing sites in the history of the Internet and the Internet's leading loyalty-based portal, this weekend served as a place to pop the question! On Saturday, September 23rd, Mario Scirica proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Rosemary Burgio, using a homepage headline on iWon.com and she said yes! This is the first time a marriage proposal has taken place on a top five portal for all its users to see.
Starting Saturday September 23rd, iWon posted a homepage banner with the words "Rosemary will you marry me? - Mario". When Rosemary logged onto iWon, she saw the question of a lifetime on the familiar homepage. When she clicked on the banner, she was brought to a page with a message from Mario declaring his love for her and asking her to marry him. While she read the message Mario presented her with a beautiful ring, and she accepted his proposal! The couple currently resides in Franklin Square, NY. Other links on the page allowed users to post a message to the happy couple as well as click to see their story. Today a banner congratulating Rosemary and Mario appears on the iWon homepage, letting all iWon users know that she happily accepted the proposal and the two will be married.
How this happened
Rosemary, an avid iWon user, logs onto the site every day to check the news, go shopping and, of course, collect her 100 entries. Mario was trying to think of a clever way to propose to Rosemary when it hit him - he could propose to her on iWon! He filled out the online form for "Advertising on iWon" and waited for a response. The iWon Sales Team received the request and realized that it was slightly different from the typical advertising request, but found it incredibly heartening.
Working closely with the groom-to-be, iWon created a homepage headline as well as a page on the couple with Mario's formal proposal. This was posted on Saturday for Rosemary and all the iWon users to see!
"I was really excited to propose to Rosemary after our three years together but I wanted to do it in a clever way," stated Mario. "Popping the question on iWon was something that is very different yet something I knew she would love. The look on her face when she saw the headline and me kneeling with the ring was one I will never forget!"
"Since the beginning, we have strived to make iWon an online community where people felt welcome and comfortable," stated Jonas Steinman, Founder and co-CEO of iWon. "Having Mario and Rosemary use iWon to start the rest of their lives together is extraordinarily gratifying to the entire iWon team."
