So you think the Peeping Toms behind those boudoir nightcams on MTV's The Real World exploit women? Well, just wait until the reality hit's producers Bunim-Murray Productions join forces with such classy outfits as Fox and Playboy. The result? Tonight's two-hour Fox special, Girl Next Door: The Search for a Playboy Centerfold (airing 8-10 pm/ET).
Here's the sitch: A gaggle of everyday gals college coeds, moms and working women aged 18-25 live together in a posh house next to Hugh Hefner's infamous mansion in L.A.'s Holmby Hills. Cameras follow them 24/7 as they compete for Hef to select the winner as Playboy's Miss July 2002. "Put 12 girls under one roof and they're not all going to get along," hostess Ava Fabian tells TV Guide Online. "There's bitchiness and cattiness and bad attitude and crying and high drama!"
Speaking of which, while Fox's press release calls Fabian the ladies' "Bunny House Mother," Miss August 1986 clearly objects to such matronly labels. "I'm more of a mentor," she insists. "I've done four or five covers for Playboy and I've traveled all over the world."
Look for the comely contestants to get their hair and makeup done, as well as "do a photo shoot in beautiful lingerie." (Oooh!) She also promises the aforementioned drama. "One girl's always fighting with her boyfriend and calling him an idiot on the phone," Fabian previews. "Another girl with natural breasts feels she's above the other girls with cosmetically-enhanced breasts. She's like, 'I can hang natural. They're all big and fake.' Later, she's crying on the phone to her mother, complaining she doesn't like her breasts!"
Worse (or better) yet, the women get cabin fever and misbehave whilst out clubbing. "I found one making out with a bartender," Fabian says, "another one making out in the DJ's booth and another one was standing on top of a table with a can of whipped cream, about to spray it all over herself and start dancing! They're playing it up for the camera, but any nudity is blurred out."
