>National Spelling Bee8 pm/ET ABC Times have changed, and so have the winning words in this entertaining event. Hard-to-spell, but at least understandable, championship-deciding words from the past have included "gladiolus" (1925); "condominium" (1956); "chihuahua" (1967) and "luge" (1984). But starting about 15 years ago, the competition heated up, with winners having to clinch with words like "antediluvian," "succedaneum" and "appoggiatura." It's gotten tougher being a kid. — Dave RoederSo You Think You Can Dance8 pm/ET Fox No one doubts the pressure put on these dancers in the later rounds, but don't discount the strain they feel when they're just trying to make it out of the audition stage, as they are in these tryouts in Los Angeles and Seattle. And while there are some who have every right to be confident about their status, the rest will have to give it everything they've got to make it to next week's callbacks in Las Vegas. — Joe FriedrichI'm Fat Again: A Best Life Special8 pm/ET Discovery HealthA few days ago we celebrated Memorial Day weekend, which marks the unofficial start of summer — and the kickoff to bathing-suit season! Fear not, yo-yo dieters: Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer Bob Greene takes over the tube to show you how to win the battle of the bulge. — Michael ChantReal Housewives of New York City: The Lost Footage9 pm/ET Bravo The cable net cores through more plump and juicy Big Apple dramas featuring housewives Alex, Bethenny, Jill, LuAnn, Ramona and Kelly. Lionel and Nicole Richie Appear on Larry King Together

>In their first joint interview in six years, Lionel and Nicole Richie appeared on Larry King Live together Thursday. Why now? Unclear!

What's that? Lionel has an album to promote? Ah, I see. Just Go (in stores now) features collaborations with Ne-Yo, Akon, Tricky and other youngfolk. "I just wanted to just come and support him and just — you know, just show how proud I am of him," Nicole said. Aw.

The pair talked about their turbulent relationship through Lionel's success, Nicole's drug use and subsequent rehab and how Nicole's boyfriend Joel Madden and 15-month-old daughter Harlow have brought them closer.

(Guys, Lionel Richie is almost 60! And a grandfather! He no longer dances on too many ceilings, ifyouknowhuti'msayin. I just felt a gray hair surface.)

In a teary moment, Lionel recalled the moment when he and his ex-wife Brenda, Nicole's mother, realized the severity of Nicole's addictions. "I came in and I said, 'I have some good news and I have some bad news. The bad news is that Nicole is going to die. The good news is, she doesn't have to.' I remember that look on her face of sheer panic," he said.

But Nicole doesn't blame her father for her troubles. "Look, I really believe that you need to take responsibility for your own actions. I could sit here and give you a million excuses. My parents were divorced or this or that, but I made the decisions to do the things that I've done and I made mistakes," she asserted. "Everyone's made mistakes."

Nicole, who is pregnant with her second child with Madden, said they will probably get married, but not any time soon. "I think for both of us, we are going to do it because we want to, not because that's what you do. We're going to do it when the time's right," she said.

Doctor Who, Torchwood Set for U.S. Return

>The Doctor will see you now — or, more specifically, in a few weeks.BBC America has acquired the Stateside rights to five Doctor Who specials that mark the end of both Russell T. Davies' stint as show-runner and David Tennant's run as the titular time-traveler. Producer Steven Moffat and actor Matt Smith will succeed Davies and Tennant starting with Season 5."The Next Doctor," aka the series' Christmas special, will air on BBCA June 27, says Variety, while the next outing, "Planet of the Dead," will debut sometime in July. Dates for "The Waters of Mars" and the two other specials have not been set, though all are expected to air by early 2010.The BBC series' appearance on BBC America represents a rather ironic anomaly, since Sci Fi Channel claimed dibs on the first four seasons, leaving BBCA to unspool them a year after the fact. But not only has BBC America secured a choice appointment with the Doctor, it also will premiere Torchwood: Children of Earth, a five-part event, in July. The Who-Torchwood one-two punch will help BBCA tee up the debuts of two new shows: Being Human (starting July 25, and concerning a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost), and Survivors (about the last members of the human race after a virus snuffs 99 percent of the population; premiere TBA).
