 Staging
 Stage I: The surgeon can completely remove the tumor with surgery.

Stage II: The surgeon can remove most of the tumor with surgery, but microscopic amounts of disease remain in the liver.

Stage III: The surgeon may not be able to remove any of the tumor or will be able to only remove part of it and the lymph nodes are positive. Or, the lymph nodes are negative, but tumor spillage occurs when the surgeon is trying to remove the tumor.

Stage IV: The cancer is found in other parts of the body.

Recurrent: The cancer has come back after it has been treated or has been in remission, meaning physical exams, X-rays or blood tests did no longer detected cancer. It may recur in the liver or in another part of the body.
