| | | Staging | | | | | Staging helps the doctor determine how far the disease has spread. Stages of osteosarcoma include the following:
Localized: The cancer is contained within the bone in which it originated and surrounding tissue.
Metastatic: The cancer has spread beyond the bone in which it originated to other parts of the body. It usually spreads to the lungs and other bones.
Recurrent: The cancer has come back after it was treated. It may recur in the area in which it originated or elsewhere in the body.
