Lymphoma: Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma                   More info on this condition
 Risk Factors
Some types of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma are linked to infectious agents, such as the Epstein-Barr virus (with Burkitt's lymphoma); the human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV-1); and Helicobacter pylori (with cancers of the lymph nodes surrounding the stomach). HTLV-1 infection accounts for only 1 percent of lymphomas in the United States, but is a more common cause of the disease in the Caribbean and in Japan. For patients whose lymphoma is associated with H. pylori infection, giving antibiotics to treat the infection can sometimes cure the disease.
