| | | Radiation Therapy | | | | | Radiation therapy uses a beam of high-energy rays or particles to destroy cancer cells or slow their rate of growth. In treating testicular cancer, radiation is used mainly to kill cancerous cells that have spread to lymph nodes. Doctors can deliver the high-energy rays through a beam from a machine (external beam radiation). However, this method can also destroy nearby healthy tissue along with the cancerous cells. Some men experience a skin reaction similar to sunburn that eventually fades. Other side effects of radiation include fatigue, nausea or diarrhea. Radiation therapy is typically used only in the treatment of pure seminoma.
