I want to satisfy my new car warranty, but do I have to have my car serviced exclusively at the car dealership to keep the warranty? |

No. But you do need to keep up on the scheduled maintenance outlined in your warranty booklet or owner's manual. To do so, make sure you read any and all small print about service requirements. In the U.S., a federal law called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your right to have your car serviced by any competent garage or service station and still keep its warranty. You are also protected from having to use original equipment brand parts. Any reputable, brand-name part will do. However, you must keep a thorough record of your car's maintenance. The receipts you get from garages or service stations should list the date, car make, car model, vehicle identification number and the car's odometer reading at the time of service. If parts are used, their brand must be identified.
