How can I polish my silverware? |
The best way to polish silver involves nothing more than baking soda, water, and aluminum foil. If you buy most "instant" silver polishing products, this is all they will contain. Merely place your silver in a plastic container with enough strips of aluminum foil such that most pieces of silver touch it. Add about 1/2 cup baking soda and then pour boiling water over everything. Tarnish will be removed almost instantly from the blackest silver. You may have to stir the silver and aluminum foil as the method is most effective when the two are in contact.

A good brass and silver polish substitute is toothpaste, which provides a quick shine--but because it's not specially formulated to clean metals, only use it until you can get the appropriate polish.
