LEARNLETS How do I clean dry, stuck-on food from the inside of my microwave oven? Your microwave will be easier to clean once you steam it up. Fill a coffee mug or Pyrex measuring cup about 3/4 full with water. (Add either a small piece of lemon, or a bit of baking soda to the water to remove any smells.) Place the mug or measuring cup in the microwave and heat it on high for one minute and 30 seconds or until the water starts to boil. Leave the mug or cup in the microwave for 20 to 30 minutes without opening the door. Wipe down the inside of your microwave with a dish sponge.
