How do I open a jar when the lid's stuck on? |
You can expand the metal in the lid by running hot water over it. Hot water from the faucet will work, then dry the lid thoroughly and twist it off. To break the vacuum seal on an unopened jar, use the handle of a wooden spoon to tap the lid firmly in three or four places around its circumference.
Once you've got it opened, rub some vegetable oil or shortening around the inside of the lid and on the outside rim of the container. No more frustrating lids or caps!
Take a rubber band and wrap it around the edge of the jar's lid. Then just open it as normal. The rubber band helps you get a really good grip on the lid so you can open it easily. You can also put on a pair of rubber gloves for the same effect.
Put on a latex glove and then twist the lid. The glove will provide an excellent grip that will open the lid more easily.
