How do I plant garlic? |
|
 |
You can plant garlic in the fall and then pick it in the summer or spring.
- Break open a fresh, unbruised bulb of garlic to separate the cloves.
- Peel away the papery layers of skin, but leave the thick skin on each individual clove intact.
- Plant the cloves pointy tip up, 4 to 6 inches apart from each other, in well-drained soil.
- Cover the cloves with 2 inches of soil, or with 4 inches in colder climates.
- Trim away any stalks that start to flower or produce buds.
- Dig up your bulbs of garlic in the summer or spring, when the shoots start to turn brown.
