If you take a bite of something that's just too spicy for your taste, don't reach for that soda you ordered to cool things down. Carbonated drinks actually help the hot spices penetrate your tongue, which only makes things worse. Reach for a glass of water, milk, or fruit juice instead, or take a sip off your margarita. Tea works well too, as long as it's not too warm.
