How do I make sure I get a quiet hotel room?
When making reservations, ask if the hotel is located near a hospital, fire department, police station, ambulance dispatch, train track, or bus station. Although these services are great to have nearby, they are less than desirable when sirens scream or trains pass in the middle of the night. Also avoid rooms near recreation areas (like pools or lounges), elevators, staircases, or thoroughfares.

Ask! Most hotels have special service codes that flag your request. This ensures you get what you want. The more expensive rooms (suites) are usually the most quiet. In larger hotels, the rooms with less beds--one king rather than two queens--mean you're less likely to have families with kids, or larger groups of adults, on either side.
