How do I eat healthfully on a plane?

1. Many flights offer vegetarian, Kosher, low-fat, or other meal choices that may be more healthful than the standard meal; call the airline at least one day in advance of departure to order such a meal. 2. Eat a full meal shortly before your flight. If it's a long flight, bring along a healthy snack for later. 3. Bring your own food on the plane. Good choices include sandwiches, fruit, cut-up raw vegetables or salad in a plastic container, or energy bars. 4. Drink smart: Bring a 1-liter or larger bottle of drinking water. The air in planes is very dry, and having plenty of water to drink will help ease that, as well as give you an alternative to the sugary sodas offered on board. Minimize alcohol and caffeine consumption since both are diuretic and will make you dehydrated.
