Choose a Private School for Your Child
(continued)
|
|
Step 1:
List your needs and goals

There are private schools designed to meet most needs, from a military education to beginning a professional career in the arts. Beyond such obvious choices, there are many other things to look for, such as how much individual attention will be available for your child, the quality of the teaching staff, the school's sense of community, the quality of peer relationships, and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. You'll also need to keep in mind the school's distance from your home and whether or not you want to consider a boarding school. Don't forget campus security and the availability of financial aid, as well.
Write down your child's needs and goals, and keep the list available during your search. Some parents are led off track by the enthusiasm of other parents or even children who are convinced that a certain school is the key to their future.
