Cope with a Crying Child
(continued)

Step 3:
Adjust

Sometimes minor physical changes are necessary to settle the baby's nerves.
Rock gently: rock the baby in your arms or a cradle or carriage. Do not shake the baby, as this can harm him or her.
Take a walk: Go for a walk with the baby in a carrier, in a sling, or in your arms.
Pass the baby off: A fresh set of arms can do wonders. It can be amazingly straining to care for a crying baby, and the baby can sense your anguish.
Go for a ride: When they need to relax, babies generally respond well to car rides and stroller rides. Remember - you drive. Please secure the baby in an approved car seat before starting the engine.
Adjust excitement: A new world, new faces, new language: there is a lot of excitement involved with being a baby. Limit visitors if it becomes too much for the baby. Adjust air intake: Gulping of air can cause great discomfort for baby. If you keep the baby upright during feeding, you will keep the air intake at a minimum.
