Plan a Family Reunion
(continued)
|
|
Step 6:
Invite the family
Your dream of a family reunion is now a workable plan--on paper. It's time to go public and send out the invitations! Try to inject enthusiasm into the letter you write.
Describe the event. Include the dates and location of the reunion, and the cost per person. Spell out exactly what attendees will get for that amount. If possible, give them help with any necessary arrangements, such as a list of lodgings where they might stay.
Set a deadline for commitment. If any of your plans involve venue reservations, you'll need a fairly accurate head count. Ask for a portion of the per-person cost in advance, too: Financial commitment usually signifies actual commitment, and you'll need the money to pay deposits on the venue and to buy supplies.
Give 'em enough time. Folks will need enough time to respond and to plan their vacation budgets and schedules around the event. Again, if many people will have to travel far, or if the plans involve considerable expense (cruise tickets, accommodation rental), leave about a year between when you send the invitation and the date of the reunion.
