A Change in Periods and Preconception

I am 20 years old and had my daughter when I was 14-years-old. Since then, I have been unable to become pregnant again. Do you think that having my daughter so young might have thrown off my body or something? My husband and I have now been trying for two years. I have really heavy and painful periods, which have always been like clock work. Then, this past year they have been very irregular. I missed 3 months in a row. I have no idea what is going on? Can you help me?

I encourage you to get an appointment and discuss this with your physician. First of all, two years is a long time to try to get pregnant after already having a child and would suggest that there may be a problem. This may or may not be related to your periods being so heavy and painful, but that issue needs to be checked out as well. Finally, it is not normal for your periods to change that dramatically. It is time to talk to your doctor, let them do an exam, and get things figured out.
