Are searches case sensitive?
General Web searches are case sensitive if one or more (but not all) letters in your search are capitalized. If you search for words by mixing both uppercase and lowercase letters, you will only get Web sites that contain those words just the way you have typed them. If you search for words using either all lowercase letters or all uppercase letters, your search will be treated as case insensitive and you will get Web sites that contain your words regardless of capitalization.

What are cached pages?
Our search provider, Ask.com, takes a snapshot of each page examined as it crawls the Web and caches - or makes a copy of - these pages as a back-up in case the original page is unavailable. (Sometimes a Web site will update a page without archiving the previous information that you need. A cached page will provide you with that info from an older version of the page. It's like going back and looking at an original property map, years after the property's size and ownership have changed.)

If you click on the "Cached" link, you will see the Web page as it looked when it was indexed. The cached content is the content Ask.com uses to judge whether this page is a relevant match for your query.

When the cached page is displayed, it will have a header at the top which serves as a reminder that this is not necessarily the most recent version of the page. Terms that match your query are highlighted on the cached version to make it easier for you to see why your page is relevant.

The "Cached" link will be missing for sites that have not been indexed, as well as for sites whose owners have requested that their content not be cached.

About Ask.com Search Results
How are the Ask.com search results chosen?
Here's how Ask.com Search works:
Ask.com employs Teoma search technology to retrieve its web search results. Instead of ranking results based upon the sites with the most links leading to them, Teoma analyzes the Web as it naturally occurs - in its subject-specific communities - to determine which sites are most relevant.

The Teoma Crawler is Ask.com's Web-indexing robot (or, crawler/spider, as they are typically referred to in the search world). This process begins by creating a comprehensive and high-quality index. Web crawling is an essential tool for this approach, and it ensures that we have the most up-to-date search results.

For more on how the Teoma Crawler works, visit the Teoma Tech Information page.
