| Sound off about... Alien Encounters |
The truth is out there...
May 11, 2001
On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles induced mass hysteria in the citizens of America when he broadcasted H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” radio play, which told the story of a fictional Martian invasion on New York and New Jersey. The broadcast, which simulated an actual news bulletin, started numerous traffic jams and even caused many people to be rushed to the hospital for shock.
Since that moment, Americans have been intrigued with the notion that we might not be alone. From the infamous “Roswell Incident” of 1947, which lead to the “Alien Autopsy” broadcasts of recent years, or even the overwhelming success of “The X-Files,” there is just no end to our alien fascination.
Month after month people report UFO sightings and even go so far as to recount their personal experiences with alien abduction. According to John Mack, a psychiatrist at Harvard University, “People, in fact, have been observed to be missing at the time that they are reporting their abduction experiences. They return from their experiences with cuts, ulcers on their bodies, triangular lesions... which follow the distribution of the experiences that they recover of what was done to them in the craft by the surgical-like activity of these beings.”
Do you believe any of these accounts? Have you ever seen anything that you were convinced was a UFO? Has anyone you know ever seen one? What, in your opinion, accounts for our fascination with aliens and UFOs? Do you believe intelligent life exists beyond the planet earth?
