Barring any unforseen surprises when state electors cast their votes today, we can safely say we have a new president-elect, and his name is George W. Bush.

Running on principles of "compassionate conservatism" and labeling himself a "uniter and not a divider", Bush claimed victory in a speech before the nation Wednesday night, after 36 days of recounts, lawsuits and public posturing by both sides.
