| Sound off about... the holiday season |
Now that the season is upon us, what do the holidays mean to YOU?
December 19, 2000
The election’s finally over, and we in the iWon Editorial department figured we’d give you a break from politics to sound off about something a little more current and “festive” – the holiday season.
Do you hear what I hear?
If you do, then you can hear the sounds of babies crying, store clerks and customers getting snippy at one another and my bank account dwindling down to the size of a chestnut roasting on an open fire.
It’s not that I don’t like the holidays, it’s just that I’ve found myself dreading certain parts of the season lately. Namely having to fight off the angry mobs as I head to the stores in search of the perfect gift, and then worrying about whether or not I have enough money to buy gifts for everyone I love.
So, what are YOUR experiences with the holidays? What is the true spirit of the holiday season for you? Do we, as a nation, do a good job of capturing that spirit?
Have the holidays become too commercialized? Have we spent so much time trying to find “the perfect present”, and lost sight of the true meaning of the holidays?
And how about holiday travel? Do overcrowded buses, trains and planes -- as well as clogged interstates and thruways -- make you wish you could travel by sleigh? Can anything be done to solve the congestion?
Finally, do you look forward to the holiday season? What are some of your favorite holiday traditions? Does religion/spirituality play a role in your celebrations?
